Crystal Cave of Giants!

This is the crystal cave of giants found in the Naica Mine, Chihuahua, Mexico.
They are Selenite crystals (gypsum) and are the largest crystals ever
discovered. They are 1000 feet down in limestone host rock where they are
mining for lead, zinc and silver. These crystals were formed by hydrothermal
fluids emanating from the magma chambers below. Miners had to drill
through the Naica fault, which they were worried would flood the mine,
and this is what they discovered.

Wow! What a find. I had no idea crystals got that large. I'm mesmerized by the pictures. Thank you for sharing. I have this amazing piece of selenite that looks like a mini ice floe. I was showing to a person I had met and as they were holding the stone, a grey color started to infiltrate the stone as we were looking at it. To this day, I wonder about that.
I love rocks and crystals. I have had rocks befriend and heal my body. The most profound experience I had was with a rose quartz that took on so much of my pain that the stone shattered into 2 - 3 pieces. I was so taken with such an offering of love from the mineral kingdom. I investigated glues till I found one that was compatible with nature and mended the rock and then carried it with me at my heart for quite some time. I did this as an expression of my gratitude. Today, the stone looks like it has a hairline crack. Isn't that awesome?
And people think they just rocks. Boy, do they miss the point, eh!?
